The restaurant was busy and almost every table was occupied. We waited a bit at the host stand before being seated, although we were acknowledged twice. The table was near the center of the room. There are 3 areas where you could be seated. One side of the table had chairs and the other was a dark blue velvet couch (which made me feel short). We were given a bowl of tortilla chips and homemade salsa (and not your typical red salsa). Our waitress, Blanca came by to take our drink order and asked us to be patient. The Albariño is one of the best I've ever tasted and I was in Spain where they are readily available. We were told that the reservations weren't staggered enough. I'll add it was a Saturday night, LI restaurant week & a fairly new place that opened in September. I'm not sure if they were shortstaffed like many places nowadays, but the staff was "moving." Usually, during LI restaurant week it's not always a leisurely dinner, but we were there almost 3 hours. Chicken tortilla soup had a little kick to it which I enjoyed, and the mushroom flautas were amazing. We were also given a courtesy side of black beans and yellow rice. I was looking forward to fried ice cream which was not available, but got the churros to go. To my surprise, out comes fried ice cream which was delicious. Our waitress was very nice and thanked us for being patient. We would definitely go back.

We were are party of 8. Cons: Drinks were horrible. I ordered an horchata White Russian and they made it with tequila. That's a No-No. I reordered it with vodka and it still tasted horrible. I gave it a 3rd try and got a sangria, which was so so. If you're looking for good drinks... do NOT go there. There was one waiter for the entire restaurant. So serviced wasn't that great. It took forever to get things we requested on the table. When food was served all dishes were mixed. Waitress didn't know which was what. My meal was a chicken enchilada and the chicken looked really dark. So who knows if I even got chicken. Pros: Overall the restaurant has a nice decor, decent parking lot, clean bathroom and staff is friendly. But not a place I will revisit or recommend.

We visited Cenote Mexican in Sayville tonight. We had previously been there a number of times when it was Bistro 25 but wanted to see how it had evolved in its new format. We were also hoping to see our friend Victor (who we knew from another local restaurant) - the manager at Cenote. We sat at the bar - really nicely transformed from its previous iteration and our bartender was Matt (great personality and an awesome bartender). I had two IPAs on tap and my wife enjoyed two of the house margaritas. Victor brought us a bowl of housemade chips and salsa (delicious) to start. For dinner my wife and I each had the fajita bowl (she had the cod fish while I had the steak). The presentation was outstanding, the portion size significant (unlike the feedback from some other diners) and the quality extraordinary. The restaurant has been nicely transformed from its old decor as Bistro 25 and in the nice weather there are tables on the front patio area. We had a great meal and it was especially nice to catch up with Victor! Give Cenote a try… you’ll be glad that you did.

Theo and I had a lovely evening at Cenote yesterday. A warm welcome awaited us from the new manager, and we sat at the bar to enjoy Marty's delicious cocktails. Marty didn't and doesn't disappoint us by supplying super cocktails that made me cross-eyed and wobbly. He made a sour cosmopolitan for Theo, which was delicious, done by switching from sweet Roses Lime to fresh lime juice. As we started going nose-deep in our martinis, homemade chips and salsa followed. The chips were fresh and had a nice crisp snap. The salsa was just the right amount of heat to stimulate but not overpower. The food was spot on. I started with a Quesadilla and quickly followed up with Short Rib Tacos and a side of Street Corn. Theo was on the Shrimp appetizer and followed it with Pollo con Arroz, or chicken and rice. All very tasty. We're looking forward to going back. Having a nice place at the top of Foster Avenue is very important to us. We're delighted that Cenote is becoming something fun for our community and the surrounding towns. Good luck to Michael, Marty, and the team! They work hard and deserve to do well.
